Our Frame Building Process

sinnett-bicycles

Whether this is your first custom frameset or your gazillion’th. We want you to enjoy every aspect of the process. One of the main reasons Mark started building his own frames was his annoyance at the lack of communication he encountered when purchasing custom bicycles. This process should be a satisfying one where communications and pictures are sent out at every milestone, building to a crescendo when that bike is finally built and handed over to its new owner. We've made it our USP (Unique Selling Point) to communicate and interact with the customer as much as possible. Mark is fully aware these are more than bikes, they are dreams. Being the 'dream-maker' comes with responsibility and Mark doesn't take that responsibility lightly.

For transparency, here is that process.

1. You contact us with your requirements. If you believe that we are the builder for you, by putting down a £500* deposit (to cover materials), you secure your place on the waitlist. We then give you a pessimistic build date (we aim to build your frame before this date, but to manage expectations we’ll say for example the end of June, but likely it’ll good to go a month to six weeks earlier).

2. We’ll agree geometry with you and produce drawings to reflect. As previous, Mark is an engineer and not a bike fitter. So, if you want a perfect fit, its worth doing a bike fit with a qualified bike fitter. However, most experienced riders can supply measurements from their current frames that we can work with. We can also copy the geometry of any bike that’s available on the market. Please note, your fork choice must be made at this point as a change in the fork will significantly affect your frames geometry.

3. When the building starts, we’ll send you regular pictures to show your frames progress as it progresses through our jigs. We literally inundate you with pictures and information.

4. With the frame built and aligned to perfection. The frame goes off for the paint or powder coat of your choice.

5. Once the paintwork is fully cured (about 3 days) we treat the frame internals with lanolin to protect the tubing.

6. After final alignment checks the frame is dispatched or collected in person.

7. Enjoy…
